The allure of Lake Bled and its vicinity deserves more than a mere half-day exploration. A hike to Mt. Ojstrica is the highlight, offering one of the most iconic views of the lake, a vista frequently gracing postcards and calendars. The day also invites you to explore Vintgar Gorge, where you can immerse yourself in nature on wooden walkways above the lively pools and cascades of the Radovna River. The possibilities are plentiful — from visiting the Bled Castle to simply enjoying the serene environment as you watch the local rowing team in action.

The journey to the Pokljuka Plateau, a beloved retreat among Slovenians, reveals a dense spruce forest within the Triglav National Park. The cooler temperatures here, compared to the valley below, provide a refreshing escape. This area serves as a starting point for numerous hikes to nearby peaks, offering stunning views of Mt. Triglav and the Julian Alps, such as Mt. Viševnik or Mt. Debela Peč. Those eager for more can extend their hike to explore additional peaks or scenic mountain pastures like the Zajamniki mountain pasture.

A short journey from Bled brings you to Lake Bohinj, the largest natural lake in Slovenia, nestled in the Julian Alps. It presents a tranquil alternative for swimming and hiking. Your path leads through the scenic Voje Valley and Mostnica Gorge, home to waterfalls, pools, and the “little elephant” rock formation. The trail meanders past traditional shepherd dwellings set against the backdrop of towering mountains. The afternoon offers time to relax by the lake or engage in activities like SUP or canoeing. For the avid hiker, a visit to the Savica Waterfall is recommended.

As you relocate, you’ll drive through the pristine Radovna Valley into the majestic Triglav Valleys. A stop in the Krma Valley offers picturesque scenes and insights into popular starting points for Triglav ascents. Proceed to the Vrata Valley, pausing at Peričnik Waterfall. Continue along the Triglavska Bistrica stream through the Vrata Valley, celebrated for its breathtaking north face of Triglav and rich mountaineering heritage. Here, enjoy a traditional hiker’s meal at the Aljaž Hut. The journey then leads to Mojstrana, with an optional visit to the Slovenian Alpine Museum, before driving to Kranjska Gora.
Berghi Hotel / Hotel Alpina / Hotel Lipa or similar (depending on availability)
Begin with a stroll to Lake Jasna, capturing moments beside the iconic bronze ibex statue against the backdrop of jagged peaks. Follow the trail along the Pišnica stream, its icy waters originating from the Krnica Valley, encircled by the Julian Alps’ lofty peaks. The hike through the valley and past the Russian Chapel on the Vršič road offers a blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Conclude the day relaxing by Lake Jasna and if time permits, visit the Zelenci Natural Reserve.

The drive over the Vršič Pass, Slovenia’s highest road pass, presents captivating views, including the natural window in Prisank Mountain and the “Heathen Maiden.” Descending the pass into the Soča Valley reveals the river’s stunning emerald and turquoise hues. Follow the Alpe Adria Trail along the river to the Great Soča Gorge, a natural wonder often chosen as a film location for its magical appearance. A local shuttle brings you back to your vehicle for the return to Kranjska Gora.

With awe-inspiring peaks and picturesque valleys, home to crystal clear rivers and lakes, the Julian Alps are a prime destination for visitors from around the globe. This region, brimming with natural and cultural treasures, is largely protected within the Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only national park.
Our tours, whether you choose the self-guided or guided option, are designed to be accessible to all. They are the perfect choice for those looking to enjoy pleasant hikes through stunning landscapes, uncover local culture, savour the cuisine, and immerse themselves fully in this unique destination.
For those who value independence in their day-to-day itinerary, our self-guided tours offer a sense of adventure with less of a tourist feel. We equip you with all the necessary instructions to ensure you have a seamless holiday experience.
Meanwhile, our guided tours provide the added benefit of expert local knowledge, ensuring you don’t miss out on hidden gems.
Your accommodations are strategically located at two different sites, enhancing the diversity of your holiday and minimising travel time to daily destinations. Your adventure begins in Bled, the gem of the Julian Alps, known for its iconic lake and island church views.
The latter part of your stay takes you to Kranjska Gora, Slovenia’s centre for mountain pursuits. Encircled by majestic peaks, it offers a blend of sporting and leisure opportunities perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.
While public transport in Slovenia is adequate for city travel, it falls short of offering the full Julian Alps experience. For utmost flexibility, we recommend car rental, which we can arrange for you, making every nook and cranny of the Lakes and Valleys of the Julian Alps more accessible.
Alternatively, for those opting for a guided experience or preferring not to drive, private transfers are available, offering a seamless way to enjoy the beauty of the Julian Alps without the hassle of navigating.

Things to know
Our guided walking tours are led by UIMLA or IMFGA internationally licensed guides who have completed many years of training to make your walking holidays both safe and enjoyable. They are enthusiastic individuals who are ready to share their passion for Slovenia and its rich culture and nature with you, and make your walking holiday one to remember.
We are always looking for the perfect fit for you. We use a few different accommodation providers that fit our standards but they are subjected to availability, especially in the high season. We can also adjust the holiday, keeping in mind your preferences and budget and can always find a more suitable solution for your taste.
We recommend booking as early as possible. Slovenian mountain huts are very popular and get booked up several weeks in advance, especially on weekends. If your booking is late, we will try our best to find a suitable alternative. Sometimes, last-minute spots open up. However, we cannot guarantee a free spot.
All of the huts offer vegetarian options and usually at least one vegan option. Still, kitchens high up are basic, so don’t expect too many choices. Huts generally serve authentic meals like stews, soups, and sausages. If you have strict dietary restrictions, consider bringing your own food as they can’t make a special meal per request.
If you want to, sure! We are well aware that some people love to stay in groups while others prefer some more alone time on their trip. We wanted to give you the opportunity to do things your way. It is your holiday, after all! As long as you respect the group timings and locations designated by your guide, please feel free to customize your itinerary and create your own adventure!
Depending on the tour, some of our tours go through high mountains and there is still snow in spring (sometimes as late as early June) and autumn (sometimes as early as October). Other tours don’t go as high and are suitable for spring and autumn as well as summer. Read more about hiking seasons in Slovenia.
Most of the tours can be done even in light rain, as long as you dress accordingly. It is not unusual in the summer that there are afternoon thunderstorms, so early starts are advisable. If the weather looks really bad, we will try to reschedule or propose an alternative tour.
Some of our tours are hut-to-hut tours, with overnights in authentic mountain huts. Try to pack light, only take what you really need. You need your passport or ID for check-in, and some cash is advisable if the internet is down. Bring your sleeping liner and earplugs for the night, and toothbrush and body wipes for hygiene. You don’t need slippers, they are in the hut already.
The Lakes and Valleys walking holidays are suitable for most people who enjoy a couple of hours of activity per day. Most of the walks can easily be shortened and there are no technical parts requiring hiking skills.
It is important to dress comfortably and according to the season and the weather forecast. Always have extra layers with you in case of the wind or temperature drop and we highly recommend comfortable hiking shoes with good grip. If you have doubts, consult with us prior the tour.
